The Honourable Steven L. Point, the Lieutenant-Governor of British Columbia, delivered the Speech from the Throne Monday, October 3.
Vaughn Palmer's column, in the Vancouver Sun, was entitled, "Throne speech offers nothing but empty pockets". It ended:
“Out of gas, out of ideas,” was the characterization from Opposition leader Adrian Dix. But being out of money had more to do with it.
Energy played a minor role in this year's speech, unlike its central focus during the Campbell years. The most important statement reaffirmed policy Premier Clark asserted a couple of weeks ago:
Your government recognizes the historic opportunity provided by liquefied natural gas exports. We are committed to enabling the development and operation of three LNG terminals by 2020, with sufficient sources of electricity to make it possible.
