BC Budget 2010

The BC government introduced its 2010/2011 budget on Tuesday, March 2, 2010.

Revenues $39.2 billion; Expenses $40.6b; Deficit $1.7b

The three key budget documents are the Budget, the Estimates, and the Supplements.

1. The Budget and Fiscal Plan. The main document, 180 pages

Revenues: $39.2 billion
Expenses: $40.6 billion
Forecast allowance: $0.3 billion
Deficit: $1.7 billion

Budget Summary:

The numbers of interest to energy wonks are in Natural Resource Revenue and "BC Hydro" in Self-supported Crown Corps.

The $2 billion in "Other natural resource" revenues is somewhat explained in footnote 3: "Columbia River Treaty, other energy and minerals, water rental and other resources". A clearer picture emerges in a restatement of Revenues by Source in Appendix 6 where we discover that nearly a billion dollars of the "Other natural resource" money comes from the bids, permits and fees that gas producers pay in the montly auctions of drilling tenures.
